Volcano Poem

LI: To write a multi verse cinquain poem that describes the journey of a sleeping maunga that erupts

We have been exploring cinquain poems. A conquain poem. A cinquain poem has 5 lines. Each line has a different purpose. Line 1 is a noun which is a name. Line 2 has 2 adjectives taht describe the noun. Line 3 has 3 verbs that end in ‘ing’ and describe the actions. Line 4 is a noun phrase which is a group of words (not a sentence) that go together to describe the noun. Line 5 is a synonym which is a word with a similar meaning to the noun.

We used our poem to show our understanding of volcanoes.

Something I found interesting about this was that Volcanoes have diffrent sizes and some of them can explode at anytime , if they are active . Extict ones are dead , which means they cannot explode ever again .

Impact of Volcanoes

LI: To discuss the impact of volcanoes on the environment and human communities.

Our challenge was to research the impact of a specific volcanic eruption in Aotearoa. We could choose from Mt Tarawera or Whakaari.

We found out that Mount Whakaari is a Cone Volcano , which means it is bigger than a regular volcano .

I found this task Enjoyable and fun  because we could search up facts about volcanoes and watch videos of volcano exploding and how they explode .

Overall this task was fun to Complete .

Why Maungarei Sleeps Peacefully

Orientation

Long ago , There was a fiery volcano called Maungarei. She was always angry because there was a lot of litter , and noisiness. She had enough of it , so she erupted , affecting a bunch of villages. She also killed many villagers and people. She did not regret any of her decisions ,until the god of the volcanoes put a spell on the Angered Volcano , to  teach her that killing people is a bad thing. The god also saw ash clouds , molten rock and lava . The Plants were burning , there was a forest fire , and the buildings and shops were turning into ashes and coal .

Problem

The Problem was that the fierce volcano didn’t notice any spells being attached to her , until she felt clumsy and drowsy . So when she did her last attack , She laughed slowly , until her visions started to blur . And her mind started to fade away from her . She had daydreamed about all of the times she had fun with her siblings . She fell asleep after the daydream , and was never seen awake again . At Least that was what the people said . Why the Volcano Started to Sleep Why Maungarei , why do you stay quiet and sleep ? the children asked .

Well my children , Maungarei is asleep , but she is resting because of her watchful job . Because she watches over the people , even in her sleep .She lets the peaceful land recover from all of the damage she has done to it . She lost all of the power from fighting , and now she rests , peacefully , the old man replies  .

Resolution

Without Maungarei’s activity , the world turned silent . It was peaceful , without any sudden movement . The people were happy , even the villagers . The children kept asking their parents why the volcano turned silent . But what the children didn’t know was that the calm volcano used to be a death cause , so that is why Maungarei turned silent . Be aware of the fiery volcano . She is not who she seems . She will rock  mayhem in the future . Prepare for the trouble you will have . Because she will mind control her siblings , into causing the issue with her .

How Volcanoes Work ( Animation )

This week for Inquiry , Our task was to make a animation of how volcanoes work . We put many details into the animation , including moten rocks falling , techtonic plates and lava flowing down the volcano . Our purpose was to learn how volcanoes explode , what damage they cause cause to the earth and how dangerous they are . Overall , this task was fun to complete .

The 4 Diffrent Types of Volcanoes

In our Reading session , we explored lots about diffrent types of volcanoes . We needed to make a Google Video , explaining about the 4 different volcanoes there was (Shield,Cinder,Composite,Dome volcanoes). We’ve had  researched about all of the diffrent types of volcanoes , and we put them on the Google Video , but we edited it into our own words . We also needed to record us talking about the information on the slides , then we put it onto the Google Video .

Overall , this task was very enjoyable for all of us .

Podcast of ‘ The Tragedy at Tangiwai ‘

In our reading session , we read about The Tragedy at Tangwai . We watched a video that explained everything about the tragedy , and took notes for later .

Key Learning

  • Open Questions give more detail about the question .
  • Closed questions give only yes or no answers , which have less no infomation .

For our reading task , we read through the whole text , then we responded to questions , by using the comments tool . We also used our own words to express our own ideas and opinions .

Group  2 created a Google Video , where we took turns sharing 6 facts we learned about the text . We  used our Smart searching skills to research about what really happened in the text , and to explain in our own words .

For example: “The disaster occurred on Christmas Eve, with many passengers traveling home to be with their families, which explained the passengers died on the train .

Most Importantly , We enjoyed learning about volcanoes .

Diary WW1

LI: To retell an event in history through the fictional eyes of someone who was there

We have been looking at the events that took place at ANZAC Cove on 25 April 1915, during WW1. Many of our NZ soldiers were wounded or killed in action. We looked at videos of life in the trenches, explored the Walking with ANZACs site and read Hami Grace’s diary. Doing this helped us put our own diary entries together.
We used Google Vids to record our diary entries. I enjoyed using this as it allowed me to talk about what I wrote in my diary , as I describe the life in the war .
Something I found interesting about this task was that we got to use Google vids , which was really cool , as I get to talk about my script .

Podcast with Samuel Marsden

LI: Making a podcast with Samuel Marsden by using Adobe Podcast.

For literacy, we made a podcast with Samuel Marsden by using Adobe Podcast. We ask him many questions about the Tamaki River and how he felt when he saw it. Well the true thing was that somebody from our group pretended to be Samuel Marsden and we had to pretend to be the hosts. Anyway, it was fun asking questions to him.

Then if we were done with our podcast, we had to download our audio or podcast.

If you see that black panel, please press play to listen to our podcast with Samuel Marsden.
